Growing up on the Nature Island, Dominica, tourism has been a main source of revenue for the island, and my passion for tourism marketing affords me the opportunity to help promote and preserve Dominica’s unique cultural tourism product. I am profoundly grateful to the CTO Foundation for the provision of a scholarship which has allowed me to attend the prestigious University of Surrey in England and realise my true potential in the field of tourism marketing.
The diverse learning environment at Surrey has created an avenue for the development of practical strategies to solving real-life tourism problems, gaining insight on the operations of tourism organisations and businesses. This scholarship has contributed to the enhancement of my motivational goals and aspirations. I know first-hand, the life changing experiences of gaining such assistance and thus, I was encouraged to continue striving towards higher attainments and to seek and utilise opportunities for advancement. Without the CTO Foundation Scholarships/Grants, many talented students would not have the financial support required to accomplish their dreams and realise their true potential in the hospitality and tourism industry.
It is an absolute honour and privilege to be a CTO Scholarship recipient and I am extremely grateful to the Foundation for considering me a worthy candidate for this esteemed scholarship. The current trend towards an increase in the number of tourists entering the region presents an opportunity for tourism practitioners like myself.
Currently, I am a Travel Marketing Coordinator at the Be Distinctly Different marketing agency located in the United Kingdom. My major responsibilities include assisting with the updating and maintain of the Distinctly Different Marketing client’s website and presence on external sites, including social media (e.g. Facebook); developing of creatives for social media platforms; writing copies for blog posts, websites, brochures and email blasts; and assisting with the promotion of various company services (e.g. The Travel Marketing Toolkit).
