The remarkable investment made by the Caribbean Tourism Organization through the Scholarship Foundation is essential and the value that this investment brings to the region’s tourism product cannot be understated.
I am truly honoured to be selected as the recipient of the Bonita Morgan Memorial Scholarship for 2020. Indeed, receipt of this award has renewed my vigor to achieve my educational and career goals, of pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of the West Indies, Open Campus. Financing a first degree is a costly venture, and this scholarship has aided immensely in defraying the costs associated with this.
Upon completion of my studies, I intend to use the knowledge, attitudes and skills acquired along with my background as an educator to pen a primary and secondary tourism curriculum to be used on my island, where instilling ownership of and pride in the tourist industry are key learner outcomes.
It is my goal to devise strategic methods through which underserved populations can improve their quality of life and earn an income through various arms of the tourist sector. I firmly believe that through education and action, we can collectively shift the current focus of tourism from an industry that merely has to be managed, to one that offers the solutions to many critical issues affecting Dominica and the region if we remain dynamic in our approach.
